New Hanover County’s newly renovated Senior Resource Center in Wilmington reopened its doors to the community Monday of this week, April 12, 2021. While the staff have continued to serve our community through online, phone, drive-through and delivery services, the center itself has been closed for over a year of social distancing.

I had the opportunity to see the new renovations and it looks great! It was so good to see a dance class in progress, a small group playing pool, a gentleman working out in the new fitness center, and to see the amazing changes. The past year has been a time of so much isolation, especially for our older adults and those with compromised health. It was a hopeful sign to see opportunities for our 55+ residents to come together again.

Of course, a lot of thought has gone into making that as safe as possible. All visitors to the center will need to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Capacity is limited. And, reservations are now required for in-person activities at the center. These can be made on their online portal. You can find more detailed information about their reopening and reservations on their web site at https://src.nhcgov.com/about-us/src-reopening/.

For those unfamiliar with the center, you can register for a variety of classes including fitness, arts and crafts, computer and more. They have billiard tables and ping pong tables, a card room, a library, a fitness center, congregate dining and more.
