This week we want to feature a couple of free programs provided by Wilmington’s Cameron Art Museum (CAM).

The first is the amazing “Connections Program.” This program allows those in the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia and their caregivers to experience the museum in an environment designed just for them. Relaxing music welcomes guests to the museum and sets the tone for the experience. Certified Therapeutic Musicians provide the music with the ability to adjust the selections throughout the tour as appropriate. The museum is only open to participants of the program during these tours. Following the tour, the participants may participate in an art project led by the museum’s education team. They may also bring a lunch to enjoy in the cafe or the courtyard following the tour. Connections Program tours are free, but participants need to pre-register. Tours are held on select Mondays. Learn more or make your reservation at https://cameronartmuseum.org/connections/.

The other program, not specific to seniors, is the “Art Enhances Health Program.” Made possibly through a unique partnership between the NHRMC Foundation and Cameron Art Museum, this program supports cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers. Patients of the Zimmer Cancer Center receive one free year of admission to CAM. In addition, these participants are welcome to join their choice of 6-week classes created for experiencing mental health and emotional well-being through art. Classes are led by a teaching artist and art therapist.

Contact the Cameron Art Museum to learn more about either of these programs. We appreciate the CAM’s generosity in providing both of these programs.
