Started Griswold Home Care for Wilmington: April 2012
Born and raised in Fayetteville, NC, I witnessed my mom’s example of compassionate care as a nurse at the local VA Hospital and as a caregiver for various family members in times of need. While her example interested me in the health field, I started my career in manufacturing. I moved to Wilmington in 2001 where I continued to work in supervisory, management and consulting roles while considering various opportunities to make a real difference in my own community.
I became interested in Griswold after learning about the company’s history with elder care and its commitment to excellence. I was excited to bring that same commitment to Wilmington in 2012. It has been an honor to serve families in our community who need extra help including our veterans through the Veteran Community Care program as an approved VA Home Care Provider.
In my free time, I enjoy working out, disc golf, time with family, reading, and a good mug of coffee.

If you are nervous about opening your home to caregivers, I understand how you feel. Our family had to overcome our own hesitation about home care when my dad was on hospice following a 7-year battle with cancer. I can’t say I was 100% onboard when we began overnight care, but I am so glad we did it! The caregivers provided all Dad needed through the night so we could be rested and together as a family during his final days. That is a gift I am incredibly thankful for to this day.
I never would have guessed that just ten years later I would begin providing the same peace of mind and respite to families like ours almost 1400 miles away.
While I was born a Nebraska Cornhusker, I have called Wilmington home since 1995. My passion for helping families thrive led me to work with children and families in crisis situations after earning my Master’s Degree in Psychology. My husband and I started Griswold Home Care for Wilmington out of that same desire to provide support to families in need as well as to provide meaningful work to the amazing care professionals in our area.
In my free time, I enjoy time with my family, disc golf, historical fiction, and (almost) anything chocolate.
Favorite place to eat in Wilmington?
I like a lot of places in Wilmington, but one of my favorite dishes is Carolina Chowder at Elijah's on the Cape Fear Riverfront.
Favorite genre to read or watch?
Historical fiction is my favorite for reading. Some of my favorite movies are Miss Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Blind Side, and any well-done Jane Austen film.
Unique dream?
One dream was to make a difference in my community through a family-owned business, so I am thankful to have the opportunity to do that through Griswold. Another dream that requires more skill in the creative department is to write and illustrate a children's book. Maybe one day...

I fell in love with senior care during my internship in college at a senior living community. There, I was placed in the Alzheimer’s unit and responsible for conducting activities for the residents. I learned a lot from the residents and learned to appreciate all the effort that goes into caring for them. I found this experience extremely rewarding. I have always had a passion for helping others, hence my interest in Psychology as my major in college. I really do find a lot of fulfillment in this line of work.
I have been a resident of North Carolina my entire life and have found joy in exploring the many terrains, my favorite being the beach and, luckily, where my university resides. I attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington and obtained my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I have always had a desire and interest in learning about human behavior and helping those in need.
In my free time I really enjoy spending a day at the beach and exploring the shells at the shore. I also love makeup and practicing new looks on myself in my free time, it is a great method of expression. I also enjoy trying out new restaurants in the area followed by attending fun pop up markets.
Favorite place to eat in Wilmington?
There are many “top” restaurants in Wilmington, however my absolute favorite is Roko Italian Cuisine in Mayfaire. It is delicious and the perfect date night spot.
Favorite genre to read or watch?
My favorite genre to watch would be a mashup of fiction with some sci-fi elements, if done correctly. My favorite show in the world is Stranger Things. I love the nostalgic feeling tied with the goonies inspired adventure with a splash of sci-fi monsters. I also really love the show Outer Banks and find it extremely awesome that a lot of the places mentioned on the show are elements of my home, Wilmington.
Unique dream?
I have a dream to travel as far and as wide as I humanly can around the world throughout my life. I really make traveling a priority in my life and find having experiences to be more valuable than any monetary possession. I want to learn about different cultures and immerse myself in the different walks of life around me.

Theo joined our team over 6 years ago and brought her exceptional nursing experience and heart for working with seniors and their families. She came to us from Maine where she served the seniors in her community as Director of a non-profit home health company. She traces her love for working with the elderly back to her childhood relationship with her grandmother. “I took any chance I could to spend time with my grandmother,” she explains. This passion has resulted in over 30 years of nursing care, primarily with seniors.
Theo is very involved with her family which includes six children, nine grandchildren, and her husband. In her free time, she enjoys walking, sailing, and spending time with her dogs.

Through Corporate Chaplains of America, I am honored to serve as a chaplain for the employees of Griswold Home Care for Wilmington.
I grew up in both Charlotte and the mountains of Western North Carolina, graduating from NCSU in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a minor in Spanish.
While serving as a District Executive with the Cape Fear Council, Boy Scouts of America in Whiteville, NC, I met my wife, Crystal. We met on a blind date at San Jose Mexican Restaurant! A promotion with Boy Scouts of America took me to Wilmington and on a path toward becoming a CEO with that organization. During that time, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. As I drew closer to the Lord, God began to call me to preach. I began serving in pastoral ministry in 2012 and have been a pastor at Long Leaf Baptist in Wilmington since January, 2017.
My wife and l live in Leland, NC, where we are the proud parents of three teenagers!
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with the Lord and spending time with my family. I also love a good cup of coffee, sports, exercise, Scrabble, the beach and watching the NCSU Wolfpack play.

We are active in the Wilmington community, so you may see us serving in leadership positions, participating in non-profits, and partnering with and supporting local organizations.

Learn MoreJean’s Story
In 1982, Dr. Jean Griswold founded our company at her dining room table in a small suburb of Philadelphia. She found out that an elderly woman in her community had died of complications because she had no support system for care. Jean felt this was an easily preventable tragedy and was driven to find a solution by pairing Caregivers with those who could not thrive in their homes alone. She was a true visionary, establishing one of the first and most successful non-medical home care organizations in the country, despite being wheelchair-bound due to Multiple Sclerosis. Over 40 years later, her legacy lives on nationwide.
Scholarship
Where would we be without Caregivers? Their selflessness is astounding, yet they are often overlooked and underappreciated. The Jean Griswold Foundation is dedicated to supporting Caregivers, the backbone of the care industry. We provide educational scholarships so Care Professionals can further their training, enhance their skills, elevate their careers, and better assist the people they serve.
