Christine Friedberg
Director
I am Christine Friedberg and I am privileged to be the Director of the Griswold Home Care Office in Northern Virginia East. I live in Alexandria with my husband, Mike, our daughter and twin boys
While growing up in the DC metro area, I was raised to believe in service. As a minister’s daughter, serving those in my community is thoroughly ingrained in my values. I was initially exposed to senior care and home care through my grandmother’s special caregiver – a woman she called her “Angel.” “Angel” was full of compassion and provided my grandmother with the care and companionship that my family could not provide long-distance.
As fate would have it, I was brought back to the idea of home care as a relationship manager with a franchise consulting and research company. I quickly realized that Griswold Home Care was an industry leader, and I made a career change because I wanted to help families like my own.We have an amazing team of office staff and caregivers who are here to help you and your family navigate these challenging times.

Assistant Director
With a background in hospice care, I learned firsthand the comfort and sense of peace people gain from being able to remain in their own homes. Sharing that experience with clients and families earlier in their lives is one of the major reasons I switched to working in home care.
Riley Brown
Lead Care Coordinator
I have worked in the world of home care since 2017 and love it! I enjoy meeting new people and finding them the perfectly matched caregiver to allow them to live their lives as best they can. I grew up in a military family where we moved around a little bit. I met my now husband when both our families were stationed in Okinawa, Japan. We went to college together and made our way eventually to Northern Virginia. I have a daughter and a dog who I love spending time with. We enjoy going hiking and camping, but also are perfectly content spending time at home together!

Lydia Hanfere, SHRM-CP
Human Resources Manager
Growing up in the Northern Virginia area has allowed me to meet people from all walks of life. I’ve found one thing we all have in common is our desire to be comfortable and happy! I knew I wanted to have a hand in creating those experiences for people, and Griswold would allow me the perfect opportunity to do so. I am honored to play a part in creating personalized care for families and caregivers.
Laura VanEtten
Director of Nursing
I am thrilled to be part of the Griswold Home Care team as a Field Nurse. I have been a nurse for ten years, and have a deep appreciation for the value of caring for people in their own homes. I am a military spouse, originally from New England, and recently moved to Virginia after four years in San Antonio, Texas. I have two children, two dogs, and I love spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, and traveling and reading.
Jackie Waxman
On-Call Coordinator
As the On-Call Coordinator, I have the opportunity to work with both clients and caregivers in times of calm and in times of crisis. With a background in counseling and public administration, I have a passion for genuinely helping people. In the not so recent past, I watched my dad age, quickly deteriorate, and ultimately rapidly pass. My dad’s number one goal was to remain in his home, a point of such pride for him, for as long as possible (aka ever). Working for a company that allows clients to remain in their homes for as long as possible only makes sense for me.
Erin Hoenle, MSN, RN
Field Nurse
Coming to Griswold with several years of nursing experience ranging from NICU babies to adults, I always had one goal in mind…getting my patients home. Home is where we thrive. At Griswold, I hope to continue this by allowing our clients to remain in their homes with the help of our caregivers. I began my career serving in the Air Force as a nurse. I then met and married my husband who was in the military as well. Now, we are retired and happily settled and raising our 4 children in Northern Virginia. I am thrilled to be working with the wonderful team at Griswold and serving this community!
In Your Community
We’re in This Together
Our team is dedicated to improving the well-being of our community through serving those who need assistance to live where they love. We are active in the neighborhood, so you’ll see us around town at events, participating in associations and meetings, and supporting local organizations inside and outside the care industry. We firmly believe in our ability to create a happier and healthier place to live through the connections we make with the people in our community.
Jean’s Story
In 1982, Dr. Jean Griswold founded our company at her dining room table in a small suburb of Philadelphia. She found out that an elderly woman in her community had died of complications because she had no support system for care. Jean felt this was an easily preventable tragedy and was driven to find a solution by pairing Caregivers with those who could not thrive in their homes alone. She was a true visionary, establishing one of the first and most successful non-medical home care organizations in the country, despite being wheelchair-bound due to Multiple Sclerosis. Over 40 years later, her legacy lives on nationwide.
Scholarship
Where would we be without Caregivers? Their selflessness is astounding, yet they are often overlooked and underappreciated. The Jean Griswold Foundation is dedicated to supporting Caregivers, the backbone of the care industry. We provide educational scholarships so Care Professionals can further their training, enhance their skills, elevate their careers, and better assist the people they serve.
