Senior Yoga

It can be challenging to find ways to keep your elderly loved ones active. It can be even harder to find ways they enjoy.

That being said, there are many benefits to staying active for older adults. For example, it lowers the risk of heart disease, improves balance and coordination, and reduces the risk of developing dementia, to name a few.

Since being active is so vital for seniors, we’d like to start 2025 by recommending 5 local activities that are perfect for seniors.

Caregivers Can Help

A Griswold Caregiver can accompany your loved ones through all these activities. Whether it’s the Caregiver taking your loved one to a local senior center for recreation, or it’s you, your loved one, and one of our Caregivers all going somewhere together, it’s important your loved one feels supported and safe. Through our Companionship Care, our Caregivers will happily support your loved one through the day.

Local Activities

Alamance/Burlington Senior Games – The mission of the Alamance/Burlington Senior Games is to promote mental and physical healthy lifestyles by encouraging seniors to practice and participate in their chosen event(s) throughout the year. There are various events available, so there is something for everyone.

John Robert Kernodle Senior Center – There are recreational activities and fitness classes held weekly at the Kernodle Senior Center. Classes include Gentle Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga, and Beginner or Intermediate Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention. Activities include Table Tennis, Darts, and Bocce.

Holiday Cedar Ridge Monthly Community Events – The retirement community hosts monthly events that are open to the whole community. January’s event will be sampling foods and learning habits from “Blue Zone” regions. February’s event is a relaxing spa treatment while creating Valentine’s Day cards.

Outdoor Activities – Senior Outdoor Adventure Recreation (SOAR) engages adults 55 and older in outdoor activities to promote the health benefits of being active. They host several hikes throughout the year at local trails and parks.

Active Older Adults Programs at Alamance County Community YMCA – The YMCA of Alamance County offers several fitness programs specifically tailored to older adults. Programs are as follows: Silver & Fit, Silver Sneakers, and Renew Active.

Consider In-Home Care

While it may be difficult to find activities your loved one will enjoy, we hope that this guide has provided some fun options for you to consider. While we only highlighted a few, there is plenty to do throughout Burlington that was not included in this blog.

Furthermore, if you notice your loved one may not be as sharp and active as they used to be, it might be time to consider in-home care. Our Caregivers can provide you with peace of mind while allowing your loved one to age in their own home. Give us a call today, we’d be happy to create a personalized care plan that fits your needs.
