Season’s Greetings from Griswold Home Care!
Category:
From our family at Griswold Home Care to yours, we want to wish you Happy Holidays, however you choose to celebrate, and Happy New Year to all! This festive season allows us to spread joy and gratitude, and we’d like to express our thanks and sincerest appreciation to our clients and communities for your continued support and trust. Thank you for allowing us into your lives and letting us be a key part of helping your loved ones continue to live with dignity.
This holiday season is also a reminder of how important it is to be home with our loved ones – especially for our seniors. When enjoying celebrations with family and friends this week, take some extra time to visit your older loved ones and make the most out of your interaction. Although it’s considered the most wonderful time of the year, for some seniors, it can be a difficult or isolating time.
Here are a few ideas to help your senior loved one get into the holiday spirit:
- Share memories. Do you have cherished holiday traditions? Share your favorite holiday memories of growing up with your senior loved one! You can also bring in pictures of holiday gatherings from the past and let your loved ones reflect and tell stories about the traditions they had when growing up.
- Bake holiday cookies. The holidays are here and that can only mean one thing: cookies! Many older adults have a special holiday cookie or baked good they only get this time of year, so why not get them involved in making a sweet treat the whole family can enjoy.
- Watch holiday movies. There are countless classic holiday movies to choose from, and with today’s internet technology, you can find your senior loved one’s favorite movie with ease. Cozy up with some blankets (and those sweet treats you just baked) and binge-watch some holiday classics!
While having fun and spending time with your senior friend or family member, make sure to pay close attention to their physical and mental health, as well as their living situation. If you’re not sure if the signs you noticed in your loved one are concerning, take our quiz to find out if it’s time to get help for the older adult in your life.
Anne McSweeney, LCSW, President, CEU Creations, who has worked primarily with the geriatric population in home health, hospice, and dialysis, collaborated with us to create this simple but important quiz to provide guidance when deciding if it’s time to get help for your loved one. Our goal is to provide insight on what kind of care they may need based on your answers!
“It’s critical to take a proactive stance and have difficult conversations about your aging loved one’s changing health early on to plan ahead and ensure their wishes are not only known but also carried out, if possible … Taking initiative in this process helps prevent problems before they start, reduces the risk of unplanned hospital admissions, avoids crisis situations, and empowers your older loved one to manage their own conditions.” Anne McSweeney, LCSW, President, CEU Creations
While this can be an emotional and challenging process for everyone involved, Griswold Home Care can support you with the tools, resources, and care needed to help your loved one live in the place they love, while giving you peace of mind that they are receiving the compassionate care they deserve.
After taking the quiz, make sure to fill out the website form, and someone will be in touch to educate you about home care, discuss your loved one’s needs, and answer any questions you may have!
As the year draws to a close and the holiday season continues, make sure to take a moment to enjoy our time off with loved ones, celebrate this past year’s accomplishments, and look forward to an even brighter future. Happy New Year!
