Celebrating National Caregivers Day

At Griswold Home Care, our dedicated caregivers serve those who require help at home with tasks like housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, and toileting. Established by Providers Association for Home Health & Hospice Agencies (PAHHA) in 2015, National Caregivers Day honors those men and women dedicated to providing these vital services. On the third Friday of February, we recognize the caregivers providing quality, compassionate care every day.

Honoring those individuals who aid your loved ones, especially the elderly who often require long-term care, is something we should celebrate year-round. Caregivers have that special kindness gene that enables them to care for people every day, and there are many ways we can show them how important they are in the lives of your loved ones. National Caregivers Day is just one of many ways to show appreciation for these individuals. This year, take time to thank a caregiver for their dedication and care of your loved ones. When posting on social media, use the hashtag #NationalCaregiversDay and see how others are celebrating the day.

If you’d like to do something more substantial, consider donating to Jean Griswold Foundation in the name of a caregiver. The Jean Griswold Foundation, a 501(c)(3) private charity established in 2010 by our Founder Jean Griswold, believes that care for the elderly and disabled should be available to all, and not just the privileged. Their vision is a future in which all seniors, regardless of their financial status, will have the opportunity to age with dignity in the comfort of their homes. They specialize in providing grants to select nonprofit organizations supporting respite and supportive services for those in need, as well as funding for local community and grassroots organizations. As of 2019, the Jean Griswold Foundation has awarded 205 grants to nonprofits throughout the United States amounting to $200,000. 88% of every dollar donated to the foundation is used to fund grants. Due to the generosity of Griswold Home Care, local businesses, and individuals, the foundation continues to provide support to hundreds of low-income seniors and disabled individuals annually. Donations can be made through the foundation’s website, and the caregiver’s name can be put in the “Additional Information” section of the donation form.

National Caregivers Day is the perfect time to acknowledge the dedicated, compassionate people who work as caregivers, but it shouldn’t end there. Simply showing your appreciation throughout the year, even with just a simple ‘thank you,’ can help boost the spirit of these individuals who work tirelessly to provide high-quality care to the loved ones in your life. Let these caregivers know what they’re worth by donating today.
