Meet Your Team
Gary Hawkins
Director
I'm Gary R. Hawkins, the owner and Director of your local Griswold Home Care office. I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Before joining the Griswold Home Care franchise family, I worked as a Residential Services Director for Prospectus Associates Inc. (1979 to 1989), where I managed residential programs for the disabled in Berks and Lancaster Counties. I supervised over 200 staff, served as the chairperson for the Speakers Bureau, Secretary of the Behavior Management Committee, and primary fundraiser for the Development Committee. Since 1989 I have independently owned and operated Griswold Home Care of Berks County, formerly known as Special Care and Griswold Special Care. We have served over 5,000 families in need of care in Berks, Lebanon, and Schuylkill Counties since 1989. I was a Mental Health Delegate for Berks County between 1983 to 2003 and founded Supportive Concepts For Families, Inc., a local non-profit human services organization where I served as CEO and Board Chairman from 1993 to 2000. Living and working in Berks County allows me to give back to the community. My community services include co-founding the Circle of Life Coalition, an organization dedicated to educating the community and professionals on all aspects of end of life care, Boomer Generation Radio, a 24 hour online radio station broadcasting information, news, and events for baby boomers nationwide, and a monthly television program called Berks Boomers dedicated to the baby boomers of my community. I served as the Executive Director of the Greater Reading Mental Health Alliance, which is dedicated to wellness in mental health through education, advocacy, and support from 2012 to 2019. I also served on a number of Boards including the Arthritis Foundation, Berks Encore, ALS Association, Mental Health Association, Greater Health Mental Health Alliance, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the Tri-County Community Network. I am dedicated to the art of caring for others. Together with my experienced and dedicated Berks County office staff, I feel confident that we have caregivers to solve your family and loved one's need for non-medical home care. The Berks County office will work with you to set up services that are tailored specifically to your needs. We also provide Veterans home care services and are a approved provider. We serve Berks County 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Call us for more information and to schedule a complimentary home visit right now.

In Your Community
We’re in This Together
Our team is dedicated to improving the well-being of our community through serving those who need assistance to live where they love. We are active in the neighborhood, so you’ll see us around town at events, participating in associations and meetings, and supporting local organizations inside and outside the care industry. We firmly believe in our ability to create a happier and healthier place to live through the connections we make with the people in our community.
Jean’s Story
In 1982, Dr. Jean Griswold founded our company at her dining room table in a small suburb of Philadelphia. She found out that an elderly woman in her community had died of complications because she had no support system for care. Jean felt this was an easily preventable tragedy and was driven to find a solution by pairing Caregivers with those who could not thrive in their homes alone. She was a true visionary, establishing one of the first and most successful non-medical home care organizations in the country, despite being wheelchair-bound due to Multiple Sclerosis. Over 40 years later, her legacy lives on nationwide.
Scholarship
Where would we be without Caregivers? Their selflessness is astounding, yet they are often overlooked and underappreciated. The Jean Griswold Foundation is dedicated to supporting Caregivers, the backbone of the care industry. We provide educational scholarships so Care Professionals can further their training, enhance their skills, elevate their careers, and better assist the people they serve.
